Brazil plans “Super Infra Month” for November: new bids planned for major public concessions of highways and ports

The balance sheet for the first half of 2021 shows that the sector’s auctions allowed us to mobilize 30 billion reais in investments. In April alone, 22 airports, one railway and five port terminals were auctioned. However, bids for major public concessions have not been completed yet.

According to government planning, November will be the most important month for new public infrastructure concessions. Among the main ones are the Presidente Dutra Highway, which connects the two largest metropolitan regions of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and the BR-101, between Rio de Janeiro and Ubatuba. This is expected to be the largest road concession in the country’s history, worth at least R$ 14.8 billion.

Within the projects offered to the private sector is the largest port lease of the last two decades, with seven port terminals in a single auction and investment forecast of 1 billion reais. As well as the BR-381/262 highway, in the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, with planned investments of 7.3 billion reais.

The auction period was named “Infra Month” due to the various auctions of the infrastructure sector. It is expected to attract more than R$ 23 billion in investments from October 29th to November 25th. Concessions’ contracts are meant to last for 10, 25 and 30 years, respectively.
