The Real Digital, Brazil’s first official virtual currency, is now called Drex. According to the announcement made last Monday (7) by the Central Bank of Brazil (BC), the currency is here to make life easier for Brazilians.
“The solution, previously referred to as Real Digital, will provide a safe and regulated environment for the generation of new businesses and more democratic access to the benefits of the digitalization of the economy for citizens and entrepreneurs,” the Central Bank said in a statement.
The brand developed by the Central Bank combines letters that carry a meaning. The “d” and “r”, for example, refer to Real Digital; the “e” is for electronic and the “x” brings the idea of modernity and connection. “The combination of letters forms a word with a strong, modern sound,” explains BC.
As well as the new name, Drex’s look is also reminiscent of modernity and technology. “Drex’s visual concept, which fits into the context of the modernization agenda pursued by the Central Bank, the BC# Agenda, is based on the use of typography and graphic elements that refer to the digital universe,” says the bank.
According to the logo’s developers, the two arrows in the letter “d” allude to a transaction, as well as recalling the evolution of the Real to the digital environment. The colors, which go from blue to light green, according to the Central Bank, convey the message of a “completed transaction”.
As the coordinator of Drex at the Central Bank, Fabio Araujo, said in a live broadcast on YouTube, the new brand brings together various elements of innovation. “With this, we take another step in the Pix family, which we created and which is already so successful,” says Araujo.
According to him, Drex will function as a “Pix of financial services”. This is because the digital currency will allow the transfer of financial assets in the same way as Pix, immediately.
