Startup creates flying boat and could revolutionize transport in the Amazon

To solve the logistics problems affecting the Amazon region, the startup Aeroriver developed the Volitan, a flying boat that combines sustainability and innovation. The vehicle is capable of flying over rivers and reaching its destination faster – in a third of the time – than the fastest speedboats in the world. The product was presented during the 10th International Industry Innovation Congress, on September 27th and 28th, in São Paulo.

At 18 meters long, the Volitan reaches a height of 5 to 10 meters above the water and has a speed of 150 km/h, and can travel a distance of up to 450 kilometers without refueling. Another positive point is that the flying boat is more sustainable, as it emits less CO2 than conventional boats and aircraft.

Tests

The flying boat is in the testing phase. According to the Sebrae Agency, a 1:6 scale prototype is being used so that engineers can understand the dynamics of the vehicle. “In parallel, we are in the advanced phase of the full-scale prototype, which will be ready for testing and certification at the end of 2024. We intend to start its commercialization in 2025”, projected Lucas.

The company’s expectation is to win new partners. “Our main objective is to solve logistical problems in the Amazon Region. Being at Congress makes connections with possible investors and partners possible, expanding AeroRiver’s reach”, said aeronautical engineer and partner of the startup, Lucas Guimarães.

The businessman highlights that the Volitan will be the first ground-effect vehicle adapted for the Amazon territory and will have the capacity to transport 10 passengers or one ton of cargo.

“Combining progress with sustainability is the key to the development of humanity, not only in the Amazon region, but worldwide. This effort must come from all entities, especially the industries that generate a large part of the polluting gases and that are also directly or indirectly responsible for the deforested areas”, he said.

Partnership with Sebrae

Aeroriver is one of the companies participating in Sebrae’s Inova Amazônia Program, which encourages, supports and develops small businesses, startups, ventures and innovative ideas aligned with the bioeconomy. “These companies help to oxygenate the economy and bring new and technological solutions to traditional-based businesses”, said the analyst coordinating startups at Sebrae Nacional, Natália Bertussi.
