Google Takes Another Step Toward ‘Physical AI’ with Intrinsic Integration
Artificial intelligence is about to take its next giant leap, moving from screens and servers to act directly in the real world. Google has announced the integration of Intrinsic, a robotics software company that previously operated as an independent Alphabet subsidiary (under the Other Bets division). This strategic move marks a strong commitment to the concept of “physical AI”.
Intrinsic was launched in 2021 with the mission of simplifying the programming of industrial robots, making them more flexible and easier to manage through its Flowstate platform. Now operating directly under Google, the team will work closely with Google DeepMind, leveraging the advanced Gemini models and the company’s robust cloud infrastructure.
According to Intrinsic’s CEO, Wendy Tan White, combining the company’s robotics expertise with Google’s AI resources promises to unlock the potential of physical AI for a much broader set of developers and manufacturing businesses. The goal is to fundamentally transform production chains, from economics to operations, and enable truly advanced manufacturing.
Physical AI represents the evolution of technological systems: machines that do not merely process data, but perceive, decide, and act in the physical environment in real time. With this integration, Google positions itself competitively to lead the next phase of global intelligent automation.
