Meet Cláudio Nakamura, a dedicated producer who is raising the standards of specialty coffee in Brazil. He transforms his farm in Minas Gerais into an example of excellence, collaborating with the Três Corações group to reach new heights.
Cláudio Nakamura, 60 years old, hopes to harvest 2,500 bags of coffee in the 2024/25 harvest. All of this on his 54-hectare property in José Gonçalves, Minas Gerais. Known for the high quality of the Arabica beans it produces, Nakamura has focused on classifying specialty coffees. Which can represent up to 40% of your harvest, providing a significant income.
The partnership with Três Corações and the specialty coffee market
The partnership with Três Corações was strengthened with the opening of the Centro Rituais de Cafés Especiais 85+ in Varginha. Nakamura and his son Eder, an environmental engineer, see this center as an opportunity to raise the quality and classification of their beans, which already score above 80 in the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association protocol.
Pedro Lima, CEO of Três Corações, highlights the importance of the specialty coffee market, which has been growing globally. The company, leader in the segment in Brazil, sees producers like Nakamura as the key to expanding this market, which still represents a small portion of total revenue, but has enormous growth potential.
Fermentation and Drying Techniques
Nakamura adopted advanced fermentation and drying techniques that improve the sensorial quality of the beans, making them more competitive in the coffee market. These methods ensure that the grains reach high quality points, further enhancing their production.
With initiatives such as the Centro Rituais de Cafés Especiais 85+, Três Corações hopes to not only increase the production of specialty coffees, but also educate producers and consumers about the importance and benefits of these high-quality beans. The expectation is that the new center will help to further process and value special lots, contributing to the sustainable growth of the market.
