TSMC already knows who will be the big winner in the AI chip war

While companies like Intel, NVIDIA, Huawei, AMD, and many others are battling it out to dominate the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) knows it will be the real winner. In a meeting with shareholders, the company acknowledged that it dominates the foundry industry and there is no way for manufacturers to escape its services.

“We don’t judge who will win, because in the end they will all come to us,” said the company’s CEO and president, Wei Zhejia — also known as C. C. Wei. According to him, the company provides the best solutions for the production of GPUs and ASICs, among other solutions, effectively “dominating the market.”

TSMC’s biggest customers include NVIDIA, which relies on its structures to produce chips for its Hopper and Blackwell lines. In addition to having some of the largest specialized semiconductor factories in the world, the company is also rapidly advancing its development of new lithography.

While orders for its 2-nanometer solution continue to rise, the company is already preparing to deliver a 1.4-nanometer technology. The lithography, known as A14, promises significant improvements over its predecessor — and could be ready for mass production as early as 2028.

TSMC not too concerned about tariff war

According to C. C. Wei, although the tariff war between the United States and China is likely to affect his business, it is not something that causes much concern at the moment. The CEO stated that despite the uncertainty caused by the situation, the demand for his AI chips continues to exceed his production capacity.

At the same time, the executive stressed that his current focus is on increasing his production capacity. He notes that, while he no longer has to deal with the restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, he still needs to make an effort to meet the orders of his partners. To this end, TSMC is working on expanding its production lines in Arizona, as well as new ventures in places such as the United Arab Emirates. However, the company’s position as a strategic ally of the United States government may mean that some of its plans are thwarted.
